Welcome to the Dusty Trail

Welcome to my website!  My name is Gary Lee Williams, and with this website, I hope to encourage family and  friends to read about my Ride Across America and to view the many photos posted under each year’s ride.

My goal is to ride from Seattle, Washington to Portland, Maine, primarily on dirt trails and dirt roads.  I also hope that other riders will view this website and be encouraged to ride across America (or a portion of it) on dirt trails and roads.   Long riders are proving every day that we can STILL ride a horse long distances across our great country without expensive gear or specially trained horses.    After being on the trail for parts of 3 summers now, and after talking to many people I encounter on the trail and in towns, I know there are many, many people who would love to do a ride like this.  So do it!  I hope this website encourages and motivates you to go on an adventure like mine.

Because I am a mountain bike rider and gravel bike rider and hiker and trail runner,  I will also post photos of local dusty trail adventures from the Central Oregon area, just for fun.  Many of those photos will include family members and friends, as opposed to photos from the Ride Across America, which focus more on landscape rather than on people.

If you click on the Ride Across America tab at the top of this page, you will find a short introduction and background to my ride.  Then you can scroll down to each year’s photos.  I hope to see you on the trail!
